According to Plato all learning was relearning. Modern cognitive science (brain sciences, psychology, philosophy, and many more sciences combined) has demonstrated experimentally that this theory is wrong. However, reviewing something you have already learned is definitely relearning and gives us new clues abouy what we learned earlier.

Thus A Course in miracles has many review days and also repeats the same idea in different ways so the ideas sink in…

Today we start another series of review sessions thus:

Our next review begins today. We will review two recent lessons every day for ten successive days of practicing. We will observe a special format for these practice periods, that you are urged to follow just as closely as you can.

The format you should use for these reviews is this: Devote five minutes twice a day, or longer if you would prefer it, to considering the thoughts that are assigned. Read over the ideas and comments that are written down for each day’s exercise. And then begin to think about them, while letting your mind relate them to your needs, your seeming problems and all your concerns.

Place the ideas within your mind, and let it use them as it chooses. Give it faith that it will use them wisely, being helped in its decisions by the One Who gave the thoughts to you. What can you trust but what is in your mind? Have faith, in these reviews, the means the Holy Spirit uses will not fail. The wisdom of your mind will come to your assistance. Give direction at the outset; then lean back in quiet faith, and let the mind employ the thoughts you gave as they were given you for it to use…

We emphasize the benefits to you if you devote the first five minutes of the day to your reviews, and also give the last five minutes of your waking day to them. If this cannot be done, at least try to divide them so you undertake one in the morning, and the other in the hour just before you go to sleep.

The exercises to be done throughout the day are equally important, and perhaps of even greater value. You have been inclined to practice only at appointed times, and then go on your way to other things, without applying what you learned to them. As a result, you have gained little reinforcement, and have not given your learning a fair chance to prove how great are its potential gifts to you. Here is another chance to use it well…

These practice periods are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do. not repeat the thought and lay it down. Its usefulness is limitless to you…

Each day’s review assignments will conclude with a restatement of the thought to use each hour, and the one to be applied on each half hour as well. Forget them not. This second chance with each of these ideas will bring such large advances that we come from these reviews with learning gains so great we will continue on more solid ground, with firmer footsteps and with stronger faith.

Do not forget how little you have learned.
Do not forget how much you can learn now.
Do not forget your Father’s need of you,
As you review these thoughts He gave to you.

We understand, of course, that it may be impossible for you to undertake what is suggested here as optimal each day and every hour of the day. Learning will not be hampered when you miss a practice period because it is impossible at the appointed time. Nor is it necessary that you make excessive efforts to be sure that you catch up in terms of numbers. Rituals are not our aim, and would defeat our goal.

Today’s review thoughts:

Miracles are seen in light.

I cannot see in darkness. Let the light of holiness and
truth light up my mind, and let me see the innocence
within.

My reaction:

The light A Course in Miracles speaks of is not normal electromagnetic radiation but is the light you see at the end of the tunnel of light. It is the light of enlightenment.

I remember the word roshan-fekr in my native language of Persian. It literally means light thinker and means progressive, free thinker and intellectual. Unfortunately these words have negative connotations in the USA.
A Progressive is a person who has seen the light and wants to move the world forward toward more freedom and better life for all.
A true free thinker is a person who uses our God given brain power to think without blindly following the orders of organized religion. Chances are that the organized religion leaders may not even believe the destructive vengeance filled religion they feed the masses. Either way blind faith is blindly accepting someone else’s ideas and is a total sacrilege as if the Creator did not want us to think for ourselves, she (of course the creator is beyond all categories of gender and all else – I use she to counter the fact that we typically use he) would not give us such huge brains and language so we could think.
The same is true about intellectual who is a person who uses his/her brain for what God designed it.
Back to Persian another way we talk about a person is to say that he/she is roshan and that means lit.
I think this is partially the light that ACIM talks about.

I want to counter the above statement by saying that many free thinkers and so called skeptics are not in reality free thinkers as they do not think for themselves but follow another set of beliefs blindly. They are like the way I was forty five years ago when I was a fundamentalist materialist.
I was lucky to start seeing the light thanks to a mystical experience.

Before going to specific results of today’s first practice sessions I wish to talk about judging each other.
In the late sixties and early seventies when I was at university I had very long hair and some days I would wear very causual clothes and other days I may wear a suit and a tie. I noticed that most people judges each other based on the uniform they wore. The so called hippies objected to the “squares” just as much based on their clothes as the others judges them based on their clothes.
Both groups were traditionalist following certain group fashions.
Both groups judged based on superficial things.
I never understood how people who said, “Don’t judge me by my clothes,” could be so judgmental.
Remember that non-judgment means accepting your brother and sister in all circumstances with unconditional love, compassion and joy, This is the way of A Course in miracles.

I am about to do a long meditation on Miracles are seen in light:

I felt a great sense of peace, joy, bliss and compassion for all as I felt and saw the inner light.

***

Today is my day off but even so this project of writing about my experience with A Course in Miracles workbook is taking too long. I have to reconsider how to do this project.

***

Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.

I see through strength, the gift of God to me.
My weakness is the dark His gift dispels, by giving me His strength to take its place.

On the hour:

Miracles are seen in light.

On the half hour:

Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.

My reaction:

As I was saying, “Miracles are seen in the light,” the thought changed to “Miracles are seen in delight,” and I felt great joy and bliss.

At another time my body more or less disappeared as I melted into the light.

I just drove for five minutes to mail some letters. On the way back a pedestrian crossed the junction I had to turn against the light. This annoyed me. I noticed that the lack of love and acceptance only hurt me.
People are inconsiderate, selfish, and greedy – love them anyway.

I’m not quite sure why you may want or need strength. In fact true strength may come from humility and acceptance. In Tao Te Ching water is mentioned as the paragon of strength because it is flexible and humble:
From chapter eight of Tao Te Ching -
The supreme good is like water,
which nourishes all things without trying to.
It is content with the low places that people disdain.
Thus it is like the Tao.

We are going to a concert tonight and so this is it for today.

Peace, love, joy and bliss to you.

Today there are two long exercise periods – one first thing in the morning and the other last thing at night. According to the ACIM workbook:

Before going to specific results of today’s first practice sessions I wish to talk about judging each other.
The so called hippies objected to the “squares” just as much based on their clothes as the others judges them based on their clothes.
Both groups were traditionalist following certain group fashions.
Both groups judged based on superficial things.
