Hildegard of Bingen was a mystic of the twelfth century. She has been called an “ideal model of the liberated woman” and “a Renaissance woman several centuries before the Renaissance.”

Here are some quotes from her writing which help elucidate “A Course in Miracles.” I have bolded the relevant segments:

  • I, the highest and fiery power, have kindled every spark of life, and I emit nothing that is deadly. I decide on all reality.
  • Everything God has done was done by the Deity before the beginning of time in the divine present.
  • God is not subject to such a thing as time.
  • In the light we behold God’s works, and in the darkness God’s absence.
  • The soul, whose essence is life, lives as a living fire within the body.
  • God has strengthened us with all the power of nature,
  • God is compassionate to all.
  • I breath life into everything so that nothing is mortal in respect to its species.
