I am under no laws but God’s

Once more this is self evident. No one, no enity, no thing, no event, can be under any law but God’s.

However as I was reading today’s ACIM workbook practice I saw some things which to me look like crazy talk:

We will begin the longer practice periods today with a short review of the different kinds of “laws” we have believed we must obey. These would include, for example, the “laws” of nutrition, of immunization, of medication, and of the body’s protection in innumerable ways. Think further; you believe in the “laws” of friendship, of “good” relationships and reciprocity. Perhaps you even think that there are laws which set forth what is God’s and what is yours. Many “religions” have been based on this. They would not save but damn in Heaven’s name. Yet they are no more strange than other “laws” you hold must be obeyed to make you safe.

To me this type of idea is a sacrilege against the laws of God. The Creator created the universe the way it is and established the physical laws which evolved the Cosmos to be a suitable place for life, and the exact same God given laws of physics and chemistry allowed life to evolve to produce sentient beings (at least on this planet) who are also spiritual beings.

I do not know if spirituality is possible without a body. I do know that it is possible with a body…

Back to the laws of God. You may have heard of the story of the true believer who is caught in a fire and refuses help from firefighters three times, first with ladder, then with being caught on a catching tool, and finally with a helicopter. So he dies and goes to heaven. He asks God why he didn’r send his angels to save him. To this God replies that he sent angels three times in the form of the firefighters and they were refused.

In the same way, nutrition, immunization, medication and other gifts of science are God’s gifts according to God’s laws. Being thankful, compassionate, loving, forgiving helps these miracles of God.

Today is my sixty third birthday. I keep repeating that I’m under no laws but God’s…
