I am entitled to miracles

This begs the question what is a miracle? Yesterday in A Course in Miracles workbook I read something that I understood as implying that the miracles of science are against God’s laws. Things which were not part of God’s laws included:  the “laws” of nutrition, of immunization, of medication, and of the body’s protection in innumerable ways.

To me that’s crazy talk. Might as well tune to FOX news – OK I apologize nothing in the universe could be as crazy as FOX news…

Back to miracles – they are spiritual and in and of the mind rather than of the body. We all die. We all get old, sick and eventually die we must. Many spiritual master die painful deaths. Think of the master Jesus. The way he overcame death was not through a literal resurrection but through forgiving those who persecuted him…

We don’t really know enough about the life and death of Jesus as no one who knew him firsthand actually wrote anything down. Everything in the four canonical gospels are basically hearsay mixed with myths (a lot from Mythraism and other pagan religions).

But we know about the death of a master in the last century. When Gandhi was assassinated in the twentieth century he was so in love with God that he smiled at his murderers and said, “Ram,” (God) with his last breath and forgave his killer…

These are the miracles:

  • love
  • forgiveness
  • compassion
  • peace
  • empathy
  • acceptance
  • service

P.S. another synchronicity exactly when I was writing the word miracles above the TV (a prerecorded program) said, “it’s like a miracle.”

Back to the main point – miracles are what happens in the mind not what happens on the material plain. And yes we need nutrition and so on…

From ACIM workbook for today:

Begin the longer practice periods by telling yourself quite confidently that you are entitled to miracles. Closing your eyes, remind yourself that you are asking only for what is rightfully yours. Remind yourself also that miracles are never taken from one and given to another, and that in asking for your rights, you are upholding the rights of everyone. Miracles do not obey the laws of this world. They merely follow from the laws of God.

This is where I take exception. Miracles obey the laws of God which are the laws of this world. Anyway, in reality this may be a minor difference as the uncertainty principle (quantum mechanics) allows anything given enough time…

Anyway first long practice session:

  • As I was repeating the thought of the day I felt a great peace all over my mind/body/soul/spirit…
  • I suddenly thought about how miraculous it is that something exists rather than nothing…
  • Then my mind went to biochemistry of the cell – all the millions of intricate chemical reactions which go on in each living cell to allow homeostasis and life…
I imagined I was floating inside the cell. It was like the virtual reality tools they use today in molecular biology – oh how much fun. I was floating inside the DNA molecules, I next swam into a mitochondria…
I was thinking how much a miracle this was – not in the stupid way that creationists of various kinds (intelligent design) talk but in the real scientific way that this universe’s laws of physics are so that the universe would evolve into matter and life bearing matter which would become conscious – all through evolution – all through trial and error – leading to intelligent sentient life feeling gratitude, love, forgiveness, compassion
    That is the miracle
I continued this fantasy – imagination – meditation and all disappeared until a few minutes went by…

Later I went for a short walk and saw some flowers – so beautiful – that’s the miracle. It is what happens in the mind which makes things miracles or not…

Changing water into wine is more like magic than a miracle to me. Drinking water and getting high, that’s  the true miracle…
