My name is Javad Hashtroudian. I have a doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy. Some people cannot remember Javad so I use my initial (J really not Jay) but anyway one of my clients started calling me doctor Jay so I got this URL. As well as my private practice I give seminars on many subjects including weight management, manifestation of your desires, relationships, stress management, performance anxiety, improving grades at school, and others as asked for. So in this section I will write about issues that I talk about in my seminars, CDs, ebooks and so on. I'll post links to some audio and things like that.

Vengeance is mine said the Lord.

According to the principles of the Course of Miracles “Vengeance is mine said the Lord,” does not proscribe vengeance but means that human beings should not participate in vengeance. Now Jesus said the final word about the Lord’s vengeance when he said, “Let he who is sinless throw the first stone.” When the angry crowd had gone away he told the “sinful” woman, “Go and sin no more.”

It is important to understand that the word used in the Greek (language of the New Testament) which is translated into sin in English is a term derived from archery. It means missing the mark. Once we understand that at times (in my case most of the time) we miss the mark life will be easier as we forgive each other and ourselves for our “sins.”

As it is said in the Lord’s prayer, “Forgive our transgressions (our missing the mark) as we forgive the transgressions of others.” Every chapter of the Koran starts with, “In the name of God the compassionate, the most merciful.” Again here we have the same unconditionally loving forgiving aspect of the Deity.

When one of disciples asks, “How many times should I forgive my brother when he transgresses against me?”

Jesus replies that even if your brother sins against you seventy times seven you should still forgive him. Note the number seventy times seven is not a literal number (490) but a symbolic number signifying infinity.

There is a tradition of the profit Mohammad (Hadith) where he talked about an adulterer who saw a thorsty dog in the desert and fetched some water from the well and gave it to the poor animal. Mohammad commented that God forgave all his sins for this single act of kindness.

Altogether forgiveness is the best policy psychologically and total forgiveness allows you to move on and get on with your life. That is why I have forgiveness as a linchpin of all the change work I do.

OK. So I forgive you for changing the format of your web site ;)

Seriously, I think the word "forgive" is overused and just about meaningless. If by "forgive" you mean that I no longer wish harm to those who have harmed me, then I have forgiven everybody except a single lawyer. The harm that lawyer inflicted on me was just last week. So in a month or two, I expect to have forgiven him.

Most people just mouth the word "forgive" the moment they feel that they are supposed to forgive. And that's just another sin of hypocrisy. It takes time for me. Sometimes years or months. I'll forgive you if you disagree. -- Cheers, Albert
